Satellite Notebooks review

Well, it has been nearly a month since I bought my T135 and I can say I like this small Titan.
Pros:
-LIGHTWEIGHT
-Powerful. With Windows 7 64 journal, I can get as much performance as a my other Core 2 Duo Toshiba Sattellite A135 laptop.
- I can get 9 hours plus of battery life (Eco Mode). As per the other person stating that he can get only 4 hours of battery life, that is in full power mode. Try to get 4 hours of battery life at full power from any other machine and you will fail miserably
- Fantastic Graphics
- Fantastic sound if you do the following:
Go to Control Panel
Select SMART AUDIO
On the lower part, select SMART EQ/3D SETTINGS
Select CUSTOM
Pull the buttons up (i have them still at number 7 (from out of 15), reasonably enough as you will see)
Delight in AWESOME volume!!!
- Wifi 802.11N!!! I mean, I an get my 802.11N signal from some 200 meters in my backyard!!!
- Gorgeous looks
-FAST, FAST, FAST
I have edited video and composition (iTunes and a couple of DVD rippers) and it does them in a copule of minutes
- IT’S a TOSHIBA!!!!
- Video conferencing (Skype and Messenger) it’s really excellent, although the camera it’s only 1.3 megapixels
- After 10 hours of use, at full power, it barely gets warm. You can place it on your bag straight away
- Ultra Low Voltage means Ultra Low Energy Consumption. I mean guys, we have to be environmentally conscious. This babe just uses 19V of energy at full power, down to 8-10 Volts at Eco Mode.
NEUTRAL
- I despise on every laptop (no matter what brand) the touch pads. I always use an external mouse.
CONS
- You can do a fingerprint exam on the laptop. I do not know why it gets so finger dirty (and judge me, I wash my hands very often). I bought a GelySkin for the exterior and it’s a fantastic add-on
Hope this review is usefull
Firstly, certainly fix your sound setup as per JMesa’s descrition.
[Also, JMesa, the units of power are Watts (W) not Volts (V), but
your numbers are otherwise right.]
The reasonably miserable Touchpad response can be fixed in the following
manner. But delight note that doing this will also lose the zoom and
rotate capability built into the as delivered Touchpad driver. I do
computer graphics and the tradoff of a far more usable Touchpad with
no rotate and zoom was well worth the switch. Perform the following
selections:
Start
Control Panel
Hardware and Sound
Device Administrator (under Devices and Printers)
Mice and Other Pointing Devices
OK, from here on I cannot provide the exact names because having
already done this exchange the names are no longer available in the
menues for viewing.
Select the Touchpad and then the Touchpad Driver and then Delete it.
You will receive a warning but continue with the deletion. Then you
will have to reboot one or more times as Windows 7 detects the lack
of a Touchpad driver and austerely installs its own driver. The Windows
7 Touchpad driver is more user friendly than what Toshiba provided,
but it does lack the rotate and zoom that very few would use anyhow.
I bought this laptop for my spouse and she likes it after I fixed the
sound and Touchpad. It does have a really long operating time on the
battery when you set it up for minimal power treatment.
Very sleek and gorgeous LIGHT notebook, but you’ll need the external optical drive for $60 more. I was impressed with the quality and ‘Maciness’ of this baby, especially in the white which is just gorgeous and allows you to see the keys better in a poorly lit room. The Core 2 Duo speed, bluetooth, webcam are all plusses. The one drawback I see is that I and the reviewers at Bestbuy find the touchpad to be clunky, grainy with the mouse harder to finely control and the buttons too narrow but unresponsive. You have to concentrate on touching them on the very end where leverage is better and your fingers won’t get worn out. All in all, gorgeous to look at, lug around and mostly use. I found the touchpad clunky and rough compared to my Dell so I gave this only 3 stars. An inexpensive external USB mouse would solve this problem.
Also, it says Windows 7 Professional or higher is required to run legacy apps in the special XP emulator mode–but it runs the 16-bit Norton Filemanager which can set a filespec and branch directories just fine!
i will only comment on some stuff that have not been mentioned in earlier reviews (unless i disagree with them), so it force be worth your while reading those, too.
if you tweak your audio as per an earlier review, the volume is incredible. i don’t know how a small laptop can generate that much sound.
but, there isn’t (or i haven’t found it yet) a mechanical way to exchange volume. there is only a keyboard amalgamation for mute or not-mute, but as far as i can tell one would have to exchange the volume from the desktop.
the integrated 1.3 MP webcam is not too terrible; seems smart enough to exchange for low light.
the trackpad, as per earlier reviews, isn’t well-designed. it takes some getting used to, but it’s not impossible to work it.
the show is stunning.
it is not really ultraportable. it is very thin, yes, but still has some weight.
my only other complaint has to do with windows 7 and not the laptop: customizing the start menu (thank you very much microsoft, but i’d like to systematize my links the way i want it, not the way you reflect i would want it.) used to be a cinch in XP and outlook; in 7, i had to do some investigate at midnight just to map out how to do it. and no, this information is sorely lacking in windows 7 help. sometimes, i do reflect windows can be very insulting/condescending.
update:
the show is really reasonably something: stunning.
the battery life is impressive (in eco mode, at least): i didn’t reflect it was 9 hours, but i was doing a lot of things that one doesn’t do everyday: defragment, backup, uninstall, install, virus scan, etc.
fantastic for listening to your favorite playlist while practicing yoga.
also fantastic for reading kindle books.
i’m not sure that sleep-and-charge works, although that may possibly be because of the device i wanted to charge, and not the laptop.
one final update:
the battery life is impressive. but, the speakers seem to drain it far too quickly that i would have probable. i guess that’s the price you pay for awesome audio.
o Pros:
——-
-Very light, you can place place it on your lap and work for a long time without feeling its weight nor its heat.
-Comfortable keyboard
-Touch pad is NOT too annoying, it just needs time to get used to.
-Battery lasts for a long time (eco-power mode). Even even if the screen brightness is low in this mode, you can’t tell that it’s low and you will feel that it has a very clear image (not dull).
o Cons:
——–
-It gets dirty really quickly with your fingerprints everywhere. I have to clean it pretty often so that it would look clean
-It doesn’t have any mechanical buttons for adjusting the volume (mute, +, -). Everything is adjusted by amalgamation of keyboard keys (Fn + 3,4)
- You need to exchange the audio settings “from smart audio” in control panel (described in details bu another reviewer) to get a excellent sound out of it.
FYI: I have only had it for 1 month and I don’t use it for “heavy load” jobs like computer simulations or so. I just use it for writing and editing my reports, presenting my work, checking email may be with windows media player running in the background.
Overall it’s a very excellent computer especially if you need to travel with it a lot and use it on battery mode for a long time.
That’s all!
