Jump Lists
New in Windows 7, Jump Lists take you right to the ID, pictures, songs, or websites you turn to each day. To open a Jump List, just right-click a program icon on the Windows 7 taskbar. (You’ll also find them on the Start menu.) What you see in a Jump List depends entirely on the program. The Jump List for Internet Explorer 8 shows frequently-viewed websites. Windows Media Player 12 lists commonly-played tunes. Your Jump List missing a favorite? You can “pin” whatever files you like there. Jump Lists don’t just show shortcuts to files. Sometimes they also provide quick access to orders for things like composing new e‑mail messages or playing composition.
Improved Windows Taskbar
In Windows 7 you can “pin” favorite programs anywhere on the taskbar for simple access. Not crazy about the icon lineup? Now you can rearrange them any way you like by clicking and dragging. Finally, there are new ways to preview windows. Top to a taskbar icon to see a thumbnail preview of open files or programs. Then, go your mouse over a thumbnail to preview the window full-screen. You can even close windows from the thumbnail previews–a huge time saver.
Snap
Ever need to cut through a cluttered desktop and quickly focus on a single window? Just click a pane and give your mouse a shake. Every open window except that one instantly disappears. Jiggle again–and your windows are back.

Energy Well-organized Intel Pentium Processor
![]() |
Offering the latest in ultra-low voltage processing power, the dual-core Intel Pentium SU4100 has a has a power consumption rating of just 10 watts and a 1.3 GHz speed that’s paired with a quick 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a better L2 cache can help speed up your system’s performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a quicker front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
Designed for use in ultra-thin laptops to weigh the competing needs of high performance with battery consumption, the Pentium SU4100 features Intel SpeedStep technology, helping your system to dynamically exchange processor voltage and core frequency to decrease power consumption and heat production. It also comes with built-in Do Disable Bit technology, which helps keep your laptop safe from viruses, worms, and other malicious attacks.
Hard Drive Protection

I’m not a computer guru, I can’t quote specs at a person, but I know when something gets the job done and this small guy does. Now I ran for six hours on battery, had another hour and a half left when I plugged in. During this time, I was surfing the web, streaming youtube and hulu, and working with Photoshop and Pro Show Producer. It even handled encoding video with Producer like a champ. It never got hot, just luke warm, it never seemed to lag, set up was a breeze, touchpad is nice and responsive, it’s just been an absolute joy and it looks gorgeous to boot. The speakers aren’t very loud, but for everything else you get with this machine, I’m not going to quibble or take away stars for speaker volume. I like it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a portable machine with long battery life that still packs a small power.
Just expected it yesterday. Was the quickest simplest setup I’ve ever had to do.
Even on the first full charge and nearly constant use. I can;t wear it out. I haven’t stopped playing on it except to sleep. It’s quick, light, powerful and excellent looking. I upgraded another (better) laptop with Win 7 Home. I liked it a lot. This one with the factory loaded version. I like even better.
This just may have my favorite keyboard ever. The whole thing is just fantastic. Well, with one exception. But then I already knew about it. The sound. I sure wish they had place it on top instead of underneath. Not a real problem for me. I prefer by headphones anyhow. I like the built in mouse pad. But again prefer my wireless mouse.
I just didn’t reflect those two small things were enough to knock a star off. I also knew there wasn’t an optical drive. I’ve got a USB cd/dvd hard drive so that’s not an issue any. Wasn’t sure if I would really like the white. I do even if. It’s not milk white and the pattern I find fascinating.
Especially appreciated there not being a ton of software to remove. That hasn’t been the case with any other computer I’ve owned. Gotta stop rambling here. Oh, the screen is fantastic too. I tied the eco mode. Didn’t despise it but am by equal setting and still get bounty of battery time.
Update: I went to the Toshiba website to see if there were any driver updates. There were several. One was for sound. I downloaded and installed it. It’s made a considerable difference in the volume of my speakers. Still lovin’ this small guy. By it more than my 17.3″ laptop.
Very excellent computer. I had a Dell Inspirion that was 5.5 years ancient and this is the perfect replacement since I need a more portable computer. I am a student that needs to take her computer to class via bike every day and also travel with it from Europe to the USA. Perfect for a person with basic computer skills and wants to use it everyday everywhere. Ideal for institution students!!
Pros: size, speed, weight, no glare screen, simple set up and installation, comes with Windows 7, comes with a webcam (not the best, but fantastic that it’s built-in for skype use), very silent/not noticable fan for cooling down the system
Cons: adapter is only 100-110V and unlike my Dell, this cannot be used in Europe (no mentioning of this anywhere), volume is low but just need to configure the sound upon arrival (very simple to do, see reviews on the black model on how to do this)
When I bought this computer I was looking for a quick, portable laptop with long battery life. It’s also nice that the battery (lasts about 5-6 hrs. depending on what you’re doing) doesn’t stick out the back at all, but only slightly out the bottom, giving the computer a nice incline for typing on flat surfaces. This laptop is all that plus it looks really cool in white (which is what I got). The only downsides are that there is no CD/DVD drive, and the speakers are really silent. On 100% volume you can hear if you’re in a silent room by yourself. Be precise to turn the volume back down before plugging in headphones even if, because the volume on the headphones is really loud (I place the volume on 10% while by headphones). The computer stays pretty cool and you can’t hear the fan running really loud or quick. My ancient laptop was a 12″ HP tablet, and it started having problems from overheating (which is a common problem with smaller laptops), but this one stays much cooler. It is also really lightweight.
With Windows 7, my computer can shutdown and start up in under about 10 seconds each.
I would recommend this laptop to anyone who needs to use it for email or work on-the-go. I wouldn’t recommend it to play games or watch movies on, since it lacks a CD/DVD drive and excellent speakers.
I may possibly not be more pleased with this powerful small laptop. I have a 17″ dell but it’s so heavy it’s just not convenient to lug around. I tried a Dell netbook for a while and i liked it’s small size but it the screen was just too small to see enough – so I’d end up going to my better laptop to really peruse the web page or what ever. But – this Toshiba is the PERFECT amalgamation of small/ lightweight with a screen large enough to do all I want to. It’s so light I can easily carry it with one hand. The screen is sharp and clear, the battery life is awesome. I chose the white color because i often use it in low light conditions and the white keys show up easily with just the light of the screen. The keyboard has a excellent feel and I like the superfluous features of the touch pad. It has some pretty cool scrolling features which I am now addicted to. I recommend highly this fantastic small laptop and am more pleased with this hold than I have been with any computer in a long time.
