Very quick and responsive laptop with expansive battery life. The 1366×768 screen is sharp and very bright too, with much crisper whites than the other 3 LCDs on my desktop. Solid build quality on this and whisper silent, compared to my Acer Aspire 4530 14inch that this replaced. Whole usable capacity on drive shows at 455GB out of the box. I’m not sure whether it’s the 4100 processor or Windows 7, but this machine screams compared to my prior Outlook laptop with an Athlon X2 dual-core QL-60. Performance with Microsoft Office Beta 10 is also exceptional, with Microsoft Excel notch in milliseconds compared to seconds on the Acer. I’m a suit spending lots of time on planes, and not a gamer–so I can’t comment on how it performs in 3D graphics but that’s not my use case anymore (unfortunately). They keyboard is a bit cramped–but you quickly get used to it after a few days. And the trade-off for thin and light far outweighs having a much better keyboard.
The largest bonus is that my machine did not come with the usual bloatware that plagues most other new laptops, so the out-of-box experience was charming and painless. For the price, I don’t reflect you can find a better deal: 4GB RAM, Win 7 64 bit, 6+ hour battery life and a half-terabyte hard drive for well under a grand. There may be smaller and quicker laptops out there, but not for the money.

I just expected this laptop a week ago from Amazon. I have a Toshiba Satellite P205 I got in late 2007. It still is going strong BUT it is a beast..17″ and heavy. It was fine at first when my time was spent at my home office, but a bear to travel with.
I happened upon this one at a local office supply store and fell for it straight away and after much investigate found that Amazon had the best build out for the best price! EVen better than Toshiba!
My thoughts at 1st were to keep my “beast” going as my home computer and just take this baby on the road..but I reflect that will be too crazy to keep everything sync’d up over sharing the wireless network.
I was able to quickly set this baby up! I figured out how to do the simple transfer over my wireless network and am nearly fully set up on one computer. This computer is very quick and even if I was used to a 17″ monitor, I have not really felt like I am missing that superfluous screen. The keyboard is cramped in comparison but I am getting used to it. I do find myself making more typing mistakes. I do find that the bar at the bottom does take a bit more effort to push down but I learned a trick the other day I never learned before. I never realized you may possibly just tap on the mouse pad to go where you wanted to go! I also figured I would be by a mouse anyhow. SO I got a logitech lap pad that has a pull out mouse pad that has made this simpler to use witha mouse while in my lap!
I did the recommendations for changing the sound options so I didn’t have any initial issues with low sound as described in other reviews of similar models. I am downloading the driver update right now as and added measure
I do not miss the optical drive at this top. I nearly considered the U models because it had the built in optical drive but that would have been a HUGE trade off in battery life! SO far I have gotten up to 6 hours of battery on this. I may possibly have gone longer but I had to replug in when I was in the middle of doing something that would take longer than what was left. I am lucky to get just over 2 hours of life on “the beast”. I bought the Samsung optical drive recommended here when I bought the laptop and that worked fantastic to load software into this. Is small and light enought to go with me on longer trips just in case. I hardly used the drive so I know I made theright choice to choose battery life over built in drive.
I was able to stash this baby in my purse yesterday, go to a client and sit in a marathon meeting for 6 hours without having it plugged in! Huge plus!
I am still getting used to Windows 7 quirks..but so far I am pleased with this one. Always liked the toshibas I have owned or worked on in the past. Expecting to LOVE travelling with this one this year and putting the beast to rest! Fantastic price and fantastic small machine so far!

I wanted a light laptop that was quicker and provided more options than a netbook. I’ve had this laptop for over two weeks now and already took it on a trip with me. I have read all the reviews of this laptop on Amazon and other sites as well as reviews of similar Toshiba Satellite laptops. I was prepared for some of the problems I have read about but experienced none. The low volume problem that many mentioned is easily fixed by going into the sound settings and making adjustments there. I had no problem by the keyboard or the mousepad. I don’t know why some others had complaints. The “fingerprint magnet” issue that is widely mentioned was not as terrible as I had probable. So I am satisfied with my new laptop and find that it meets my needs.

As a programmer/webmaster, I am usually upgrading/fixing my ancient computers for experience. But, after a CCFL (backlight) failure I chose it was finally time to upgrade past my 2gb RAM and eternally failing HP Pavilion; within a week, I had chose from a concatenation of investigate that the panoply of options available for the new model of the Satellite were certainly worth the incredible price.
At first I may have been wary of the smaller screen size, but after about a day of by it everything suddenly became copasetic. If you are really worried about the size, just get a second monitor for home-use. Also, the dual core on this tiny beast is FAST. And by the Eco mode, I have been able to effectively carry around my laptop for about 48 hours without the battery even coming close to running out, even while by it for about 9 of those hours!
Now it’s certainly right that the trackpad has some problems; the simple solution: get an external mouse. All around I am very impressed with the device. Now I just need to find a reasonable way to fill 500gb of hard drive space.

I had a HP laptop that I bought 5 years ago (still working but very slow and battery nearly dead) and this toshiba replaces it. That ancient HP pavilion’s build quality is very excellent and it lasted me all these years without any issues. I’m not sure I can say the same thing with this Toshiba. This is made cheap to make it light and materials were of lower quality. Keyboard has charming keys and buttons are very thin. Screen looks very excellent at full brightness and we can get only 4 hrs of battery life with this setting. If you make the screen dim, you can get up to 7 hrs of battery life but working at this level is nearly impossible. So, don’t go by the “9HR” battery marketing gimmic. It’s right only in ideal conditions.
Processor speed is excellent (infact it is Pentium DUAL-CORE). Amazon didn’t specify it in their description. I comfortably ran HD youtube, 1 virtual machine and office installation all at once without any issues. if you need ultra portability, go for this. If you need muscle and longer life, look elsewhere.
Hope this helps.
