![Norton SystemWorks 2005 Premier - Single User [AntiVirus, Utilities, GoBack, Ghost, CheckIT]](http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5128AM05VKL._SL160_.jpg)

I ordered this product from Amazon because it was on sale and we needed to have some sort of Antivirus software on our computer. Although our computer was running fantastic, I wanted it protected. I read one review which stated that the product was pretty excellent. Since then, I see there are more reviews online. I typically don’t rate harvest, but felt the need to share with everyone my experience. After installing McAfee, it has been one problem after another. Mcafee identified a “virus” which really was a fake clear. Everytime I log on it says to remove it and restart, after restart, the same message appears. After contacting McAfee about the problem, I was told I may possibly pay $89.99 to have them remove viruses from the computer. What a coincidence. . . Fascinating how the only way to fix it is for me to pay them money!
On top of all of that, Mcafee identified ‘explore.exe’ as a malicious file and removed it. Well ‘explore.exe’ is necessary for a computer to work. So without it, I now have no desktop icons and no start menu.
Bottom line, I thought I was getting a deal, instead I got a broken computer and will have to spend even more money to backup the hard drive and do an entire system install back to factory settings. Thanks a lot Mcafee.
This is additional information learned since my initial review of this product.
McAfee Antivirus Plus 2011 seemingly does a excellent job of preventing infections, intrusions, etc. But, McAfee has apparently chose that the fact that you have bought a license to use their software gives them a license to use direct marketing for some of their other harvest through the use of pop-up messages even when you do not have a browser open. It is the same type of practice utilized by “shareware” and downloaded “trial” software. These pop-up ads are rather large. They have been as large as 3 x 5 inches on my 24 inch monitor. There seems to be no way to disable these annoyances. You may also receive, by the same method, notices to “renew” your current license. This supposedly can be resolved by clicking “Verify Subscription”. It is not always 100% effectual but.
If you don’t mind the annoyances mentioned above McAfee is a excellent choice. Personally, I will be looking at Internet security software from other publishers.
I always had Norton for years and had nothing but hassles, finally last year I said “enough” and got McAfee. It has been fantastic, it was more affordable, simple to install and worked fantastic. I had no problems. I bought this years version and look forward to the same fantastic performance. In fact I am just loading it at present and it’s going very well. I reflect you will be reasonably pleased with McAfee’s Antivirus programs!
I have owned Norton and McAfee both and have had Norton lock up several PC’s just on install, I gave up on Norton a few years ago. McAfee has worked fantastic except on older slower pc’s. I have a desktop that is nearly always on, it’s new and quick and I don’t even notice the software updates/installs/virus scans – it’s all in the background. I have a 4 year ancient laptop that I seldom use, everytime I turn it on it slows way down as McAfee does its updates and installs and it’s slow when it does it’s virus scans. I’d recommend this software even if you have a slow pc, just leave it on overnight 1 day a week so that it can do all the updates/installs/virus scans while you sleep then you won’t have the slowdown when you go to use it.
I do not personally own this version, but I do have McAfee software on my desktop computer, and I HATE it. It is constantly running unnecessary scans and installations that slow down the computer by approximately 80 percent. I have had several viruses on my computer since I got the software, and MUCH prefer Norton Security. I have Norton on my laptop. I always have speed and never a virus.
P.S. Although it says one star from this review, I give it a zero.
