Is there a way to use HP recovery on a different compaq laptop?

My laptop recently died, and I’m trying to resuscitate it by reformatting. But, I lost the original compaq service pack CD 2. I have an HP pavilion, but the recovery system is in the hard drive. Can I place all the files on an external HD, then plug the external HD into my laptop and boot fromt here to reformat? If not, would it be possible to copy the windows file under program files to an external HD, then boot from that? As a last resort: if none of these are possible, can I at least borrow someone else’s service Pack 2 CD (from Dell, not compaq) and use it to reformat? I tried to reformat with a win2K CD I found lying around, but my hardware is not compatible. Help, PLEASE!!!

Help me with choosing an affordable laptop?

I want a laptop that is in the price range of 0-0 and is very reliable and well met to these needs: Unlimited DVD and CD player+burner; high speed internet connection; at least 4 gb of reminiscence space; a computer that has excellent history with no key-pad problems or locking mouse-pad; able to insert ipods wireless mouses and DECENT BATTERY LIFE!

you should get and hp because they are more for things like every day computing which you will be doing mostly; and you should get one with a large hard drive like the hp pavilion and its affordable and versatile with the new simplified windows os windows 7 also with a quick intel pentium processor look at hp.com they are better than dells now with fantastic help. their quality is unbeatable for the price.

…i reflect it is awesome that they have touchscreens do any other “people”(sony, hp, dell) make laptops with touchscreens?

I’m not sure who created the viruses, However if you have it on your computer, You should try using MSCONFIG in Windows XP to disable some of the unnecessary programs that automatically load on start-up. Disabling these programs will help your computer boot faster and crash less.
1. In Windows XP, go to Start > Run

2. Type MSCONFIG in the “Open:” box and then any press enter on your keyboard or click on the OK button.

3. This launches Microsoft’s System Configuration Utility. Click on the Startup tab (the tab at the far right).

4. This takes you to a page with a list of “startup items.” Startup items are programs that are involuntarily loaded every time you turn on your computer. Some startup programs are absolutely necessary, others are austerely a waste of RAM.

Remember, disable only those programs that you recognize and don’t need to have running all the time. When in doubt, leave it on.
5. Click on the OK button.
6. A message will pop up telling you that you must restart your computer before these changes will take effect. Click on “Yes” and your computer will involuntarily reboot.

7. That’s it! Your computer should now boot quicker and crash less.

It provides a centralised place to handle file storage space and access by other client computers on the network hence providing a capability to share information and other resources

File servers force also be used to store e-mail, financial data, word processing information or to back-up the network.

The file server controls system security and monitors station-to-station communications.
