.

I’ve had my laptop for less than 2 years of which is under guarantee and has been sent for repair on more than one occassion.

My main concern is that

a) My power pack does heat up

b) Just generally the electricity it’s eating up – an impact overall on our electricity bill

c) When I’m only relying on my battery, the performance isn’t too terrible but it’s got to a stage where I’m lucky if I get an hours worth before having to re-plug back into the mains.

Any power saving tips above all and not having to rely on the mains ?

I must admit the lap top is ON more than it’s really shut-down and OFF.

Thanks.

I can’t help with the clip (sorry) but if it helps any, I judge it was an oryx, rather than a gazelle. They’re closely related to gazelles but not exactly the same thing.

I just receied an e-mail asking me to sign a petition to require the so-called Super Delegates to vote in compliance with the standard vote in their diestricts. On the face of it, it seems reasonable, but I have a question. If the Super Delegates are not free to vote their concience, aren’t they just invited guests to the convention? As I recall, the concept of delegate status for high-ranking Democrats was the result of an effort to unseat Mayor Richard J. Daley and his contingent of delegates from Illinois many years ago. The thought was to prevent the party movers and shakers being eliminated from the nominating process. If you bind a delegate to vote in compliance with the standard vote in their district, you have effectively stripped that delegate of his or her participation in the nominating process. In any case, is it really honest and democratic to exchange rules in the middle of the game?

The problem is a lot of superdelgates are not elected officials…so they have no district that they represent

P/Invoke Interop Assistant

.

P/Invoke is like a poke in the eye. Sure the P/Invoke wiki made life a lot more palatable, but it’s at best incomplete, at worst inaccurate, and invariably you’ll find yourself hand-crafting signatures based on Win32 API doco and bringing a production server to its knees because of a stack imbalance.

In my idler moments I’ve often thought that surely parsing the source-of-truth Win32 header files and spitting out P/Invoke signatures couldn’t be that hard. Fortunately for everyone, the Microsoft Interop Team thought so too[1], and released the P/Invoke Interop Assistant to Codeplex. Really that was about 2 years ago, but I only just noticed, so it’s still exciting for me.

As I know it this has been made simpler because Microsoft have been standardizing their header files and adding some additional metadata [2], which makes it possible to generate accurate signatures (and, presumably, to generate MSDN doco).

Sadly of course, none of this does anything to make any of the underlying API’s any simpler to use…

[1] Really if you look on Wikipedia, turn’s out there’s a honest few around.
[2] In retrospect you wonder why managed code took so long to take off as a concept, given how enormously fragile the previous model really was. SAL’s a fantastic thought, but only highlights how fundamental the problem is.

I spend .67 per month on one cartridge of HP Black printer ink. And .79 every few months on one cartridge of HP color printer ink. The cost is getting prohibitive. Where can I buy original ink (not refills) for less than this.
small businesses can’t afford to buy in bulk. And I know a Mac is the best it’s just that it’s too too too darned expensive.
