Do Apple computers come empty?

.

As in, without any programs. Is it right? Would I have to buy most of the programs I see in apple computers at, say, Best Buy?

Also, what’s the Apple equivalent of Microsoft Office and would I have to hold it or would that already come with the computer? Not an Apple laptop, a whole computer. Monitor, tower, etc.
Lol, like a Mac, I mean.

How do I restore vista from my recovery drive?

.

I place the windows outlook disk in, restarted my computer clicked Install Windows Outlook and now it is asking me where do I want to install outlook(OS or Recovery Drive) If I select recovery drive will it restore my computer to factory settings or will it just Install outlook ito that drive? Delight Help!!!! Don’t answer if you don’t know because I don’t want to do anything I will regret!

You should install it on the OS because the Recovery is the part of your hard drive that contains the recovery software needed to restore your computer back to original factory settings. Select OS if you want to restore your computer back to original factory settings. If you want to keep your data austerely load whatever operating system that is on your computer now and just make another partition on the hard drive. Then insert the disk and you should have another option for where to install outlook.

How about:

When I was childish … (ancient people always say when I was childish or when I was your age)

When I was your age …

Did I do that? (every person has always denied doing something that they obviously did)

Wasn’t me (we always try to blame someone else)

When I was born (what happend the year they were born like how much gas was and the number one song etc..)

Look at that hair ( we always make fun of the hairdos we had)

What not to wear (we always make fun of the clothes we use to wear or wear now)

Know better? Leave your own answer in the comments!

Log4Net Active Property Values via Lamdas

.

Some years ago I wrote a couple of posts on some nasty problems that you may possibly encounter if by log4net contexts in an environment where you didn’t control the thread lifecycle, say ASP.Net. Judging by the amount of coverage it got at the time (and still) I wasn’t the only person caught out by this.

Anyhow I was doing something similar recently, not in ASP.Net, but in a Windows Service attention with lots of threads. It’s the same kind of problem: there’s some thread-point context that always exists, which we want to make available to log4net, but putting it in ThreadLocalContext doesn’t really work very well because we’d have to set them up in all our thread-entry methods, which would be everywhere where a callback gets entered – very messy in our (highly asynchronous) attention.

Instead I wanted to place something in log4net’s GlobalContext that resolved to the thread’s context value. And really now we’ve got lamdas and all that nice stuff, I was able to come up with a significantly neater implementation for a general-purpose contextual logging property, which basically answers the original ASP.Net problem too:

    /// <summary>

    /// Implements a class that can be used as a global log4net property

    /// to resolve an action to a string at event-fixing-time

    /// </summary>

    /// <remarks>With a suitable lamda expression, you can place this

    /// into your log4net.GlobalContext to resolve at logging time to a variety

    /// of stuff you force want to use in your logging statements.

    /// <example>By threadId (not thread Name) as a property:<code>

    /// log4net.GlobalContext.Properties["threadId"] =

    /// new Log4NetContextProperty(() => Thread.CurrentThread.ManagedThreadId.ToString());

    /// </code></example>

    /// </remarks>

    public class Log4NetContextProperty : IFixingRequired

    {

        private readonly Func<string> _getValue;

        public Log4NetContextProperty(Func<string> getValue)

        {

            _getValue = getValue;

        }

        public override string ToString()

        {

            return _getValue();

        }

        public object GetFixedObject()

        {

            return ToString();

        }

    }

In this case I wanted ‘threadId’ as a logging property (log4net exposes thread name, which is normally fine, but the R# test runner makes woppingly long thread names that basically hide the actual logging message, and I really just wanted the IDs (hence the example above). But you can see how you can basically use this to expose any context data to log4net if you wanted to.

Why do I get duplicate emails?

Why do I get duplicate emails?

Monday, June 21, 2010

Once in a while customers may receive a single email message more than one time. The messages are identical, with matching make pleased and “Sent” dates. This article clarifies one common reason for receiving duplicate messages.

How Email Servers Deliver Mail

Assume that we’re talking about a message from bob@sendingserver.com to sue@receivingserver.com.

  1. After both servers negotiate a connection the mail server for sendingserver.com pushes the message to the receiving mail server.

  2. While holding the connection open receivingserver.com scans the message for spam and viruses.

  3. Once the message has been declared safe for delivery receivingserver.com queues it for local delivery to sue’s mailbox.

  4. When the message finally reaches sue’s mailbox on receivingserver.com a message is sent back to sendingserver.com that informs it of a successful delivery.

This process works to ensure that all email is by the book scanned, delivered and accounted for. But in very rare cases an interruption between step 3 and 4 can cause a message to be delivered more than once.

For example if the connection is interrupted after receivingserver.com queues it for local delivery but before a confirmation can be sent back to sendingserver.com the carriage server will try to redeliver the message.

Since the original copy was queued for local delivery it will come through, but since the carriage server never expected confirmation it will try to deliver again resulting in duplicate emails. This circumstances is more likely to happen under intense load situations or with high latency network relations. The issues leading to the interrupted connection can originate on any the carriage server’s end or with the receiving server.

The above circumstances is temporary and normally only a few copies will be delivered, they can be deleted safely.
