My external 1TB HD died i cannot see it in “(my) computer” on my Outlook or XP system can see it under disk management in outlook but not XP but it will not initialize under disk management .
Listed under device administrator in both xp and outlook
is there a disk checking utility that can scan for terrible sectors ect with out an “active” partition?
i have searched the net and i have found a few different programs for “restoring” a partition or data recovery but the data recovery program i find seem to need a set partition and the partition recover software seems to take a VERY long time i got one started before i went to sleep and it ran for close to 8 hours and if the % done was relatively real time it would have taken YEARS to scan the HD for a partition
Now just being able to plug it in and click next a few time would be fantastic but I am savoir-faire enough to be able to map out more complex instructions
what i am looking to do
1 want to be able to use drive as is recover everything and its just working YAY
2 recover most of the data and still be able to use drive
3 loss data but still have drive working
4 recover data but drive mostly dead
thank you
i tried to take it out of the case and see if i may possibly use it as an internal drive but the relations are nearly integrated with the drive and i didn’t want to perfectly disassemble it in anticipation of all other options are exhausted.

I am in the Chicago area. I was also wondering does Dell repair computers also? I found a few places online that I can send it to but I am very skeptical of them.
I know they outsource these service centers out of the country, but damn, I just called to get the procedure and it was so hard to know him. Dell is superfluous expensive; my warranty is already expired so I don’t neccessarily have to go to Dell.

You won’t be able to remove that crap by austerely removing a few files. Plus it has keys hidden deep in the Windows Registry, and 16 year olds are not allowed down there!!!
“System Security is a rogue anti-spyware program from the same family as Winweb Security. This program is classified as a rogue because it uses fake scan consequences as a method of scaring you into purchasing the software. If System Security is installed, it will be set to start involuntarily when you login to your computer. Once running, the program will start to scan your computer and list a variety of infections that cannot be removed unless you first hold the program…”
