I got a Toshiba Satellite Notebook for Christmas and when I first turned it on, after 5 seconds it turned off. Then I thought possibly the battery was empty so I place it to charge and turned it back on. Then it took about 50 minutes to prepare windows. This seemed like a long time to me.
When Windows loaded my battery was 100%. After by it for half an hour I turned it off to spend time with the family. Later on I turned it back on and it kept saying Microsoft Windows on a black background and showing it’s loading while indicating this with some bars. It didn’t do anything for 15 minutes so I turned it off and turned it on again and it said Windows encountered an error, would I like to repair it? It took some time to repair and it restarted and then it worked ok.
Then when it came to Windows again the battery was at 13%. I played chess on it and 2 minutes later it dropped the battery to 5% even on economic mode. The next day I turned it on (we’re Romanian so we open gifts around 9pm Christmas eve) and now it loaded in about 2 minutes. It still seems slow to me. It also doesn’t ever seem to remember that I turn the volume to off, it keeps coming on loud when I turn it on.
Should I return this Notebook? It’s so new and not working as I hoped. I didn’t install anything or place any discs or USBs and I don’t have the internet yet. It has Windows Outlook, 2GB RAM, 400GB HDD. I’ve never owned a laptop/notebook and neither has my family. It cost ,700 Australian dollars and I’m a small uneasy with it’s performance.
I did read the documentation, very clearly before rotary it on to make sure I do not ruin it.
Anyhow I can’t tailor it to my liking since I’ve never owned a laptop and do not have the confidence to make it personalised. I read everything before rotary it on and it didn’t even mention anything about charging it completely before by it for the first time.

Well you have two options.
You can any call their tech support and resolve the issues that way
or
You can return it for a groundbreaking new one
I would recommend the latter. You are guaranteed on their warranty, and since it’s groundbreaking new you really have nothing to lose by getting a new one. If you call their tech support, it will probably take a long them for them to walk you through the process of repairing. Plus it sounds like you may have a faulty battery.
Best of luck, and remember to take advantage of your warranty.
Yes, send it back. If there is a problems with a product (within a few days of hold) you should send it back for a full refund or a new one.
I would return it as soon as you can. Do not place it on the internet even if. That should not be happening. So, yes, go exchange it for another one.
The first thing you should have done is read the manual. It probably would have told you that on your first run to plug it in as the batt wasnt fully exciting. You then would have gone thru a lengthy process of tailoring windows to your liking. The PC should have remained plugged in in anticipation of it was fully exciting. These batteries have reminiscence so to speak and need to be deep cycled or you may hurt them. I’d suggest reading the documentation next time.
You should always charge the battery before by a new lap top.
You have to give the operating system time to fully load, this veries as to the speed of the system. I assume the Operating system came preinstalled. Have you Installed you Internet Security software, this should be done before connecting to internet. Did you set up the operating system and set you as administrator ? Never turn off a computer while system is loading or powered up by the on/off power up switch, this is what caused the error message.
Two minutes to load an operating system like Outlook is not very long. A fully exciting battery should last from 1 to 2 hrs. depending on the programs and applications running. Playing games can use a lot oof power.
You should question for help from a family member on by the lap top if its your first. If you have problems you can also get help from consumer service at: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp click on this link for Toshiba Support.
