Are you sure it’s the jack. That’s rare. Usually it’s the male end of the power supply, or the power supply itself. Get a second opinion. I also diagree with the price. it’s a .00 part and about an hour to take the system down and connect it in, then re-assemble. Perhaps you don’t mind paying 0/hour. I sure do.
Still, If that’s all thats incorrect, I would repair and keep it, Possibly a reminiscence bump to 2 or 4 gigs in the process. And, the next time you buy a laptop, get the “premium” or “full coverage” extended maintainence plot and keep it in force. You nearly always end up by it.

Previous answer made one mistake. There are a number of laptop motherboards that have a defect in the jack mounting. None will admit it and none will replace it out of warranty. I’ve dealt with half a dozen of these. If you are at all handy, you can remove the mother board from the laptop, and order the jack through an electronics parts place (I like Mouser, but there are dozens of them), then I take the mother board and new jack to the local TV repair shop where the tech will desolder the ancient one and mount and connect the new one for around $25. (The jacks run from $.90 to $5, depending on the laptop brand). It’s well worth the effort, and if you aren’t comfortable taking it apart, check with your local community institution, their electronics course students are always looking for projects. Get another quote it is a simple repair job involving a soldering iron & a component costing a couple of Pounds & the price you have mentioned is a complete rip off.
I don`t know what the consumer protection laws are where you are but in the UK you would certainly be protected & able to get a repair from the original retailer for a nominal cost (or if you push your consumer rights nothing at all) . A laptop should reasonably be probable to last considerably longer than a year & the fault you have discribed would make it unfit for purpose.
You do have other inexpensive options open to you involving external chargers, but personally I would take it up with your local equivalent of the UKs Trading Standards Dpt & the retailer
As a computer supplier my self I would feel it my responsibility to get you up & going again, with the minimum of inconvenience & fuss.
After all ,just I years use from a laptop would make for ludicrously expensive computing
Excellent luck
