I have had nothing but HP computers for the past 8 years. My first laptop had a battery issue, but since I had a warranty, HP replaced it. My current desktop has had some issues, but these have primarily been with software and the video card, and once again, HP took care of it.
You don’t say what cord you’re talking about. My guess is that if you are having a problem with the same type of cord melting in the same place, it’s probably NOT the cords, but something they are attaching to. Melting requires heat, which means that something in your system is getting too hot. If you are still under warranty, email HP on their website under troubleshooting and let them help you troubleshoot it. If your not, consider any getting professional help or do some investigate on your own. PC World and SmartComputing magazines have brilliant articles on troubleshooting computer troubles, and much of this is available right on their websites.

i have an hp compaq laptop, but I haven’t really had any problems with it yet. I don’t really know much about computer repairs but It sounds like your laptop may be extremely hot or something may be incorrect with the wiring inside the computer which is not excellent. When you say cords do you mean adapter cords? Call a computer shop ASAP like Best buy or better yet, call compusa if there is one in your area. They specialize in computers and they can certainly help you. Excellent luck.
The normal guarantee period is one year. I have had a insignificant problem with a terrible key and worn keypad after one year.
