I have a product thought. What does it mean when something says “Licensed by the NFL”? Does everything have to be licensed, I mean, let’s say it’s a football ( a common object), but it represents something in the NFL(like the football phones with team logo), does this have to be licensed? If it deals with a point identity that is found only in the NFL is that what causes it to be licensed? If manufacturer already produces a licensed product, can they then produce another product much more easily? Is it better to sell a product thought, if possible than it is to keep it and try to do it on your own?

The thought behind licensing is to allow someone with a registered trademark or thought to make money by “selling their brand.” What they would really be selling is the quality that goes behind the name. For instance, a fixed pair of sunglasses may sell for only $5. But with the NFL license, the sunglasses can be sold for lots more. And yes, to use someone else’s brand, you will have to get it licensed or you will face extreme hurts in the form of a complaint.
The benefit for the licensor is to make money without having to do anything additional and the licensee makes money by a brand that already has brand recognition (like the NFL).
