She dropped the laptop when it was plugged in to the wall outlet and damaged the AC line in port. Now the unit will not receive power when plugged in. Our friend lent us another model HP laptop that uses the same battery and we use this to power one battery while charging the other. The laptop is in excellent working condition otherwise and I would like to repair it for her. Can anyone advise me how I might do so or direct me towards a specialized adapter that runs power through the battery ports?

Best answer:

Answer by Checha
My advise is to get the AC line port fixed. It should not be too expensive. That would be the safest. I have never seen an AC connection to a battery pack.

I do small time local computer repair and have recently had a work order for a VERY old laptop. There is no branding on the computer (such as Dell, Gateway, etc..) that I have noticed. I’m looking for a laptop charging jack for the computer. Not the charging cable/pack, just the jack (just to clarify).

I will provide as much information as possible, in hopes any of it can be useful in locating a vendor where I can confidently order a replacement part that will match.

The bottom of the laptop reads:

Computer Builders Warehouse Build# 532754 (probably irrelevant information, but provided anyway)
N341c232400907

Input 20v =-= 4.5a
Personal Computer
Model No. N341C2

That’s ALL of the information provided on the back stickers/branding areas.

The top/cover of the laptop has a sticker which reads “Champion” (Also irrelevant I’m assuming)

Other than the information I’ve already provided, there are absolutely NO identifying marks on the laptop itself.

The charger that came with the computer has a model number of LSE0202a2090
Input 100-240v 50/60Hz 1.5a
Output 20v =-= 4.5a 90w max

(I provided this information in the event the model information in conjunction with any other information provided may be indicative of a specific compatibility in AC adapter jack.

I’ve also found the phrases/names “Uniwill” and “Visionary” associated when searching the web. Is one of these the manufacturer? (never seen an unbranded laptop before, not sure how the process “works”)

Finally: Are laptop jacks fairly universal, I’ve replaced about five of these so far. the process and connection to the mainboard are all fairly similar, but I’ve only actually seen two different types of charging plug configurations. (asking because I’m wondering if should just bulk order about 10 of each kind if it’s fairly universal)

Thank you everyone for your time and any assistance.
Hey PC tech, I want to thank you for that wealth of information you had provided me with.

If I had found it on google or yahoo, I wouldn’t have wasted time typing an elaborate description of my problem.. Thanks for the tip on these new “search engine” things though.. I thought that when I’d posted something like “I’ve also found the phrases/names “Uniwill” and “Visionary” associated when searching the web” that would lead you to believe that I’d searched them already? Conveniently enough, I had already been to the exact page you had linked me to..IT WAS WHAT I WAS MAKING REFERENCE TO… My question is, is there something about a DC Jack part number, order source, or anything at all related to my question there that I’m missing? I’m thinking there must be otherwise why would you have sent me there, right?

Next time, just save yourself the time and don’t post an answer trolling for points.. Unless I’m mistaken and that really was an honest effort to be of assistance, in which case I’

Best answer:

Answer by pc_tech_66
google is very handy http://www.uniwill.com/products/other/n341c2/N341C2.htm im sure you can find more information if needed

Answer by Sara
For installing a wireless printer on Windows XP, wireless router is an essential device. Follow the recommended steps mentioned on the installation CD of the router, and set-up a wireless network. Since several computers or laptops will access the printer, it is recommended to connect the wireless printer to the main computer through the USB port. To begin the installation process on Windows XP, access the network setting in the Control Panel, and activate the file and printer sharing option in the LAN setting. This will allow the operating system to recognize the availability of a wireless printer. Now, click the Start button, go to Devices and Printers, select Add a Printer option. Click the second option- Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer. The computer will search for available printer and reflect it on the screen. Click Finish; and the printer is ready to begin the printing process.

I was wondering if there’s some kind of adapter or converter that I could use to be able to plug the old adapters into my Lenovo Thinkpad T60. Or even better, if there’s some kind of kit with interchangeable parts for all sorts of laptop power plugs. Ah, that would be fun.

I had already found this thing on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Multi-AC-DC-Power-Adapter-Supply-For-Notebook-Laptop_W0QQitemZ140200017626QQihZ004QQcategoryZ64466QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Not what I’m looking for though. I want to re-use what I have.

Thanks for taking the time to look into my question for me.

Answer by astrobuf
I believe these two PC’s use different voltages from their power supplies. Even if you could make it work with some sort of an adapter, I’m not sure I’d advise it, you could damage or shorten the life of your battery a fairly expensive thing I think!

I have a desk computer and non-wireless HP printer and Dell laptop computer and a wirless router. my provider is Time Warner. I want to be able to print from my laptop wireless. What do I need to do.

Best answer:

Answer by Charlie Tuna
Assumptions->
- The printer is connected to the desk computer.
- The desk computer is connected to the network through the router
- The laptop connects wireless through the same router

On your desk computer Go to Control Panel -> Printers -> right-click the Printer and share it (you have to assign a share name to it)
On your laptop -> Go to File Explorer -> Click on network -> find the desk computer on the network -> click the desk computer -> you should see the shared printer -> double click the printer. You may be asked for drivers. Find the CD for the printer or download the drivers from the HP web site. (you may have to install the driver first before connecting to the printer through the network)

Best answer:

Answer by IBMGuy
Unplug your modem, router, and reboot them all just to make sure.
Then remove the adapter from the laptop while it is off.
turn on laptop wait 2 mins then turn off again and re fit the adapter.

if it does not connect after the above then remove the WPC54G driver from the add remove programs then reboot the laptop.
go to Linksys http://www.linksysbycisco.com/UK/en/support/WPC54G and download the correct driver for your version of windows and install.
If still no good try the adapter in another laptop to determine if broken.
