I know about reducing screen brightness, and setting the laptop screen to dim ect. I’m talking about a way to extend battery life during use, like I can in windows with the Lenovo energy management program.

Best answer:

Answer by ubuntu
Go to Ubuntu screen settings & Reduce the Slider reduce the brightness.

You can also make changes in the Battery Power settings like power save options when the laptop is idle.

I have been using this LGR48 laptop for 2.5 years. Recently, I forgot to switch off the electrical switch which the adaptor was plugged into. Electricity was running to my laptop but it was shut down (the battery light detector lit up for the entire night). The laptop battery was not plugged into my laptop that time because I do not have a habit of letting my laptop run on battery (wanted to extend battery life).
When I woke up I switched it off immediately. BUT hours later when I tried to start up my laptop using the adaptor alone, it did not respond. The battery light detector did not light up either, like it didn’t detect any electricity supply. I plugged in my laptop battery, together with the adaptor plugged in, my laptop was able to power-up. However, both battery and adaptor plugged in, my laptop was changing between charging and not-charging every now and then. Not to mention, the brightness of my screen as it tries to accomodate the changing power scheme. And so, I removed the battery while my laptop is still running and the adaptor plugged in. Surprisingly, my laptop works fine. It could function normally just like before (the problem starts). But when I shut down and try to power start it using the adaptor alone, it’s the same problem again. I’ve using the above method to start up my laptop since yesterday. But I feel really uneasy, like my laptop would crash anytime soon. Could anyone enlighten me of a possible cause? Also, does this call for immediate attention i.e. send it for repair immediately! If you do know of the cause, is the damagee extensive enough that you’d recommend me to get a new laptop???

Sigh.

She dropped the laptop when it was plugged in to the wall outlet and damaged the AC line in port. Now the unit will not receive power when plugged in. Our friend lent us another model HP laptop that uses the same battery and we use this to power one battery while charging the other. The laptop is in excellent working condition otherwise and I would like to repair it for her. Can anyone advise me how I might do so or direct me towards a specialized adapter that runs power through the battery ports?

Best answer:

Answer by Checha
My advise is to get the AC line port fixed. It should not be too expensive. That would be the safest. I have never seen an AC connection to a battery pack.

Somebody told me there will be too strong for the power supply if I just using the AC power cord without the rechargeable battery inside the Laptop or Notebook computer. I assume a separate circuit for the AC power and the battery. Kindly please advise and TKS.
John

Best answer:

Answer by Renaissance Nerd
That is a bunch of boloney. My laptop takes a 19V power supply. It is enough voltage to charge my battery and supply power to all the voltages in the computer because they are much lower and the computer has internal ‘buck’ circuits that handle power from the 19V or from the battery at 12V. The only problem I see with running your laptop without the battery is you have very little hold up time to ride thru glitches in the power you may not be used to. Computer power supplies typically have a hold up time of 17ms or just over 1 cycle. This is the same for a regular pc or a laptop desktop power supply. It takes about 330ms in a blink of an eye…so you will never see the glitches that can send your computer down without warning.

So the problem is hold up time, not too much voltage for your computer.

I bought a new replacement laptop battery for my old Inspiron E1505 Dell Notebook Laptop. When I first got it on Monday, I let it charge for 3 hours. When I powered my laptop on, it worked great. The battery was recognized and it read 100%. The next day or so, I unplugged it to test the battery life unplugged, and then it started deteriorating in life. The point I’m trying to ask is this: When I plug my battery in to charge it, why does the power not charge to 100%? It was stuck at 98% , now it’s stuck at 96%. I fear it isn’t working and it’s a shame because I just spent 80 bucks on it. Any suggestions or help would be useful. Thank you!
