But will the laptop actually work again?

I set down a magnet on my laptop(pretty strong), I rubbed it on it a little bit actually because I forgot magnets could ruin hard drives, and when I came back there was a blue screen saying my computer was damaged, and now it says it cant start because it can’t find an important file. I don’t have a recovery disk, but I can get one.

Yes. It just destroyed the data. No actual physical damage was done.

Fixing it is tantamount to buying a new one. The only way you can salvage your data is by taking the hard drive to the shop. You can’t do it yourself.

Incidentally, how were you able to break the PINS? You must have heavy hands.

You can’t. When you copy them to the HDD a disc check is still required. The reasons for this should be obvious.

Yes it is still possible to recover your data from a formatted hard drive. However, the more you use the hard drive, the less chances you can recover them as the space that those files are occupying may be written over by newer files.

I can’t be certain, but it sounds like your hard drive failed. If you know how to open your computer, try checking that the cables didn’t come loose somehow. You can also try installing the drive on another computer as a secondary drive to see if it functions properly. If you know how to access your BIOS settings, you can also check if the drive was detected, or if the startup device changed somehow. Otherwise, you may have lost all the data on the drive.

I have never got Win recovery “press R” procedure to do anything. You may need to reformat and re-install Windows.

I believe it has something to do with the drive not spinning or some other common problem.

If you don’t need the data, then just buy a new hard drive. It would be cheaper than trying to get it repaired. If you do need the data and think repairing the drive will allow you to save the data, the chances of that are slim to none. Data recovery is not cheap. Most places I’ve checked charge from ,000 and up.
