The keypad is replaceable. No one will replace individual buttons. Sheesh!

Key word is affordable, none of those rigs in the thousand dollar range please.

If not a laptop than just a desktop. Provide links if at all possible.

If you want to stay under 00, I suggest you go for a desktop in which case I would custom build it using IBUYPOWER. They are having a Easter sale and have some really good prices. Definitively worth checking out.

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select ‘r’ at the first screen to start repair.

I pressed the R key and it just showed me the message again. I would like to know how I can fix this.

You can do this but only if you have the Setup CD. Put that in and then press “R” and it should start the repair.

Note: I’ve seen some videos on how to replace the screen myself, but I don’t want to end up making things worse. I don’t even have an extra screen.

I’d say 200-300 dollars, the laptop screen itself might be under 100-150 dollars, but the labor will double the price.

The HP Pavilion Notebook PC uses new high quality Gorilla Glass, which is quite expensive to replace and to repair. Though it does not seem that the Gorilla Glass is damaged, so if somebody is claiming to replace or repair the glass, it is a scam and that will not fix the issue.

To get it fully repaired by a professional or by HP would range around USD- 0 USD

An alternative would be to buy new hardware piece, specifically the part that projects the color and images onto the screen. This costs about USD however is very dangerous and hard to replace, and can result in your computers glass breaking, as it is tampered and will require the frame to be removed to replace the projectile piece, or you could damage other key hardware pieces in the screen.

If you have a warranty, your best alternative is to claim it in and get your screen repaired professionally. If not I suggest you still spend your money to get it safely and professionally repaired by HP. Having it repaired by a person from a Creg’s List add or some un known tech site is dangerous and could be a fraud or scam, or they might not be able to fully repair it to the best possible standards that HP would.

I don’t understand why there are two red and two black connections to the laptop when the adapter’s male end only has two.

My thought is that the 4 wire connector at the other end of the jack doesn’t have enough current capacity if it were to use only 1 red and 1 black wire. Also, if they used only 2 wires, the wires themselves would need to be heavier gage wire, and might not fit well if they are routed around lots of tight corners, so using twice as much smaller gage wire would allow the same current capacity and still be flexible enough to fit properly around corners.
