Where can i get a cheap server computer?

Where can i get the cheapest cloud computer?

Best answer:

Answer by Nathan Dee
Basically, cost (time and money) is a determining factor on whether you buy and setup your own server, or you rent out the service (Amazon, Microsoft, other). Another determining factor is capacity (bandwidth and storage) and the growing need for capacity. If bandwidth and storage needs don’t change much, then renting a cloud computer service might not make sense. Some hosting services will push back if there is a dramatic change in bandwidth, even if they say bandwidth is unlimited. Avoid RAID; one error will shut the whole thing down.

This is a pretty cheap home and small business server that can be upgraded. Wire a bunch together and run it all on some enterprise server software and you’ll have a cloud computer.

Specs: HP Micro G7 N40L NHP Server
• AMD Dual Core Turion II Neo N40L Processor
• (1.5GHz) 2GB (1x2GB) 1x250GB SATA 3.5”
• (1) Gigabit NIC
• 150W Power Supply
• Up to 8TB internal SATA storage

and are the graphics cards just like a standard desktop (easily ugraded) and are they even capable of running the latest games and 3d design tools etc,

also am i right when i think that servers can have more ‘blades’ added at later dates to increase power of the machine? if so any recommendations?

Answer by Jay Clineta
servers don’t usually have graphics cards, because they don’t have video output, and they don’t run normal operating systems, or have normal processors. It wouldn’t be possible to use a server for a computer

Best answer:

Answer by TheMadProfessor
Being able to access SQL data via an index – sorta. Assuming it could access the database to begin with, a search engine would pass a query to the server containing the database, but the Query Analyzer within SQL Server would make the decision whether to use a given index or not.

Creating a whole new index – almost certainly not, a search engine would likely not have the necessary permissions to do so unless whoever created the database foolishly made such permission PUBLIC.

We’ve got an older ML370 running Windows 2000 (I know, I know, I just started here, it’s on the list to upgrade). We can’t get the backup software BackupExec to run, apparently because windows is reporting 15 tape drives, even though there is only one internal scsi DLT installed. I assume it had been working at some point previously. I don’t know if it ended up messed up like this because of a patch, or a user/operator flub. Any ideas?
Sorry, not a DLT, but rather an Ultrium-1 drive.
Good thought on the terminator – there’s one there, but can they go defective? It’s an internal cable, and the terminator has a circuit board on it and is different than the external terminators.

Best answer:

Answer by Richard
The underlying operating system is the same between the two. Its windows 2003, the difference is that additional applications that come bundled with the Small Business Edition.

Ideally in a larger company windows server is installed on one machine and runs one application using seperate servers for email, database and proxy services. Since small businesses usually can’t afford many different hardware and software systems SBS comes with several useful applications and is designed to be installed just one machine. There are two versions of SBS the premium version has Exchange(Email), SQL (Database) and ISA (Proxy/firewall) server.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/sbs/evaluation/features/default.mspx

The Standard SBS edition only comes with Exchange. The other services you see on the microsoft site also come included in plain windows server 2003 however microsoft includes some installation scrips with SBS to make the insall process easier.

It’s microsoft’s attempt to get in on the small business market with applications that are often used by some of the biggest enterprises. You save money over buying the applications individually however the limitations are you can only use one physical computer. You have to buy a transition license to “split” the component applications onto multiple machines once your business and needs expand.

SBS is a good deal if you can only afford one server and are prepared to put all your eggs in one basket. If your server goes down so does everything. If you have a lot of users you may also need to higher end hardware, this is when sometimes many low cost servers could meet your needs better than one single high end server.

Best answer:

Answer by worldneverchanges
Create a folder to be shared by all users. Download the update into that folder. You may have to download the exe version. On the client computers change the update setting to point to the folder and file. You should be able to schedule it to run on the client computers.
