I do not have any viruses, or adware. I have 1 gig of ram. I have a legal version. It should open within a few seconds but it takes my computer over 35 seconds to open this program. I do not notice this delay with any other program.

Try repairing and if that doesn’t work reinstalling Office/Word

i had the same issue after an office update and i solve it by just reinstalling office. should work fine after that.
Download this free and safe program called Advanced Windows Care, possibly there is something amiss with a registry entry.

Open a Word document

cl Detect and Repair (have your CD handy)
Also:
- Set wallpaper to none and screensaver to blank.
- Check Startup menu – load only programs needed daily.
- run Disk Cleanup, Scandisk, Defrag regularly.
If, when you installed Word, you opted for all the goodies, you have to allow it time to load. But, if you are by wallpaper and screensaver, I reflect you will notice a difference if you remove them.
