Well, despite being the most secure (and not by much, if any in my opinion) Mcafee and Norton harvest are the worst. While they will stop most viruses/spyware they are store hogs and will momentously impact your performance. Norton is the worst at this, and it is hard to uninstall. I use free AVG now and have yet to be infected by any virus/spyware. Many people say AVG is not excellent at catching viruses, but many say it is. You may possibly also try NOD32 which is very excellent, but not free. I’d stay away from anything from Panda as you may possibly get better protection for free. When looking at reviews, many publications are austerely advertising for a certain brand. You’ll see a lot of “such and such AV sucks” followed by “such and such AV is the best”. Most AVs have free trials, so try them out and see which one you reflect is worth paying for. Or, go the free route.
For reviews I’d check otu http://cnet.com, they have an editors review and user reviews to check out.
The best recommend is to use common sense. Don’t open e-mails from people you don’t know, only visit site you know/trust, don’t give away personal information. Use common sense and you don’t have to agonize as much.
