I would recommend AVAST or Avira – both free and have excellent level of protection.
Next would be Microsoft Security Essentials or free PCTools antivirus ( http://www.pctools.com/free-antivirus/download/ ).
I would not recommend AVG, even if some like it. AVG tarnished its name in antivirus tests recently : they send faked screenshot while disagreeing with consequences.
