And when I said FREE I seriously mean FREE. Not ‘hey, okay, download this, then we give you a scan, tell you how screwed up your computer is, then you have to buy to register’. AVG and AVAST are the most standard free antiviruses. They are perfectly free and do not charge to scan or remove. You should know that they’ve performed slightly worse on tests than pay antiviruses, but they’re still very effectual. Pick only one to download and install.

I use AVG 8.5 for Windows (http://www.avgfree.com.au/download.cfm?type=free) you have to register which takes like twenty seconds, but it’s completely free. I’ve had no troubles in the months I’ve been by it and was able to effortlessly remove a Trojan from my computer just a few weeks ago. It also scans incoming file transfers from programs such as Windows Messenger.
I recommend that you use “spybot search and end” as anti-spyware, and AVG Antivirus as antivirus software.

You’re not going to find a better malware removal program than Malwarebytes. The rest are opinions and everyone will tell you they like program A. or program B. because blah blah.
Malwarebytes is pretty much the back bone of every major computer virus removal website. Try http://www.bleepingcomputer.com.
I’m not saying don’t try anything else, but for a quick scan, Malwarebytes rocks. It gets updates all the time and doesn’t run in the back ground to bog down your system. Just run the scan every now and then, or if you see something you don’t recognize. The only top of running a real time scanner is if you’re visiting a lot of porn sites, or are trying to get free stuff that you’re supposed to pay for. Legit websites don’t have maleware, unless someone is out to get you. In which case, they don’t crash you computer, they just find exploitative ways to get free money from you. You would then just use Malewarebytes and just say bye bye to them.
For legit computing uses, it works, is free and has a highly dedicated community of people who despise viruses.
