As excellent as the free scanners are they do not provide real time protection (with shields). This is the best protection. Shields stop crap from getting onto your computer in the first place. I suggest investing in a excellent commercial anti-spyware program such as Webroot Spy Sweeper which is one of the top rated ones. I use Webroot Spy Sweeper and really really like it. It protect me very well and I do not get infected. Just to double check things I occasionally run a free spyware scanner such as Malwarebyte’s Anti-Malware or SUPERAntiSpyware. You only want one with real time protection. The free ones without you can have more than one.

It is not a excellent thought to install two that run in real-time; this is where most conflicts will arise. Of course, never scan with two programs (real-time or no real-time) at the same time any.

The free version of MBAM doesn’t run in real-time – so you are safe there.

The free version of SUPERAntiSpyware is another excellent one that doesn’t run in real-time – perhaps install that also.

As neither offer real-time protection, ensure you perform periodical scans (say, full scans once a week and quick scans daily) to hopefully catch anything if it slips past your AV.

SpywareBlaster is fine – it should not conflict with anything as it uses a different method to other anti-spyware programs (that doesn’t use any CPU or RAM any – that’s a plus if you are trying to conserve resources).

ThreatFire (free) reportedly uses very small resources and will help protect against zero-day threats by behavioral breakdown.

Spybot is past it’s use-by date. I personally wouldn’t bother with it. It’s up to you even if.

None of the above should affect resources as most don’t offer real-time protection and the ones that do, aren’t the greatest (including AVG Free – which btw, includes no anti-rootkit). Don’t mistake even if, MBAM and SAS are very excellent (that offer scan and removal capability) – they just won’t protect you as such (as they don’t offer real-time protection).

I have three programs installed that I run daily and have not had a problem in over 5 years. They are Spybot S&D, AdAware, and AVG. I have tried others before trying these three and always had problems. These three in amalgamation have eliminated all my virus,spyware, and popup ad problems.

Mal Bytes is excellent. Avast is better than AVG for virus protection and they have a free version if you do not have the money… I can not tell you how many times AVG missed too many things. Spy Bot is a excellent program in itself. I do not reflect that you need the Spy ware blaster. Excellent online virus scanners are also available like fsecure online scanner.

These programs do not run in the background (I don’t use Spybot’s teatimer) and they will not hurt performance

Yes. More = better but don’t run them at the same time. They force conflict.
